We are thrilled to invite you to join us at the LAcon V Art Show in 2026! The Art Show is open to all attendees for browsing and purchasing, and space in the art show is available to any artist, professional or fan.
You do not need to be a member of LAcon V to enter artwork in the Art Show, but you must be a member if you wish to attend any convention activities in person or online.
What you need to know about the show
Acceptance to the Art Show
We require that all artwork submitted into the art show be created exclusively by the artist making the submission. Artwork may not be fabricated using artificial intelligence (AI) generators, compilers, or any system that utilizes images and work by other artists who have not provided express permission for the AI system to use their artwork and images.
If any artwork displayed in the art show is recognized or identified to be an AI-generated product, the artist will be asked to remove the artwork from display. We recognize that determinations whether artwork is AI-generated may be subjective. Final determination whether to accept or display artwork is at the discretion of the art show directors.
U.S. copyright and trademark laws must be complied with. Copyrighted characters (other than your own) may be displayed but must be marked NFS (not for sale), unless proof of the copyright holder’s permission is provided.
As a general guideline, artists should use the 29% alteration rule of the original source material.
Art will be viewed by people of all ages. The art show management reserves the right to refuse or remove artwork for administrative reasons. As a general rule, we will allow what is considered “tasteful nudes” (light R). NC-17 (such as genitalia or extreme violence) is not allowed. Please contact the art show directors with any questions.
The art show directors also reserve the right to decline an application.
Artwork for Display
All entries must be of science fiction, fantasy, or fannish interest.
Limited edition prints, digital art, and photographs are allowed. Only one copy may be displayed for sale. A displayed copy must be numbered and identified as a print.
Previously purchased artwork can be entered for resale by the owner on a limited basis at the discretion of the art show directors.
Pieces may be designated for bid, bid and quick (direct) sale, quick (direct) sale only, or NFS (not for sale). Multiple copies of the same image may not be displayed on the panels, but are welcome in the print shop.
Once a piece of art is entered in the show it may not be withdrawn, nor may the conditions of the sale be altered, except by permission of the art show directors.
All art must be display-ready and clearly labeled with its title and the artist’s name (see bid tag information).
All artwork and prints must be able to withstand reasonable, careful handling by the art show staff. We want your work to go home with the buyer in perfect condition.
Flat art should be matted and/or framed with a suitable hanging device attached. The art show is not responsible for damage caused to art by inappropriate hanging devices.
Jewelry must be displayed in the artist’s own display case(s), and the case(s) placed on a table. Enough table space must be purchased to hold the display case. If you have a lockable case, please give one set of keys to the art show directors, so that we can get to the pieces.
Please note that some official photography will be allowed for the virtual component of the convention. Please indicate if this is acceptable or not when registering (the registration form will have a place for this). Regular attendees will not be allowed to do any photography.
Art Show Display Spaces: Panels and Tables
Art Show space is available in units of panels or half tables. A panel is 3’ wide by 4’ high, and is made of pegboard. Materials for hanging artwork will be provided by the convention. A table space is approximately 3’ long by 2.5’ deep, half a standard hotel table. Please allow for clearance between pieces and space for their attached bid sheets when reserving your space.
Each unit of Art Show space is $45.00.
Please clear any requests for more than 6 units of space with the art show directors in advance.
For the print shop a print fee will be $1 per piece hung. You do not need to purchase a panel if you are sending/bringing prints only.
A 10% commission will be collected on all sales.
Insurance, Shipping, and Payments
LAcon V Art Show is not responsible for any loss or damage to submitted artwork. Artists are responsible for their own insurance to cover their art in the show. We will take reasonable care of your artwork in the show, and will have security precautions in place, but the convention cannot acquire the expensive extra insurance for the art show.
There will be no payments to artists at the convention. Payments will be mailed as soon as possible, and not later than 30 days after the convention. Please note when registering if you would like to receive payments by check, Zelle, or PayPal (there will be a place on the form for this).
Mail-In Art: No Artist or Agent Presence
Mail-in art refers to artwork that is shipped to the convention by the artist, and then checked in, hung/displayed, checked out, and shipped back to the artist by art show staff (artist or artist agent is never present). The mail-in art process is limited to non-attending artists who are unable to accompany their art to the convention or are unable to utilize a local agent to do the same.
Mail-in artists will be charged a $25.00 non-refundable handling fee.
Please time your shipment to arrive by 20 August 2026. This will give us time to process your artwork before the convention. Packages may be sent by US Mail, UPS, FedEx, or any other delivery service. Please do not require a signature as this will only delay delivery.
The convention assumes no responsibility for artwork damaged during shipping.
Upon return shipping every attempt will be made to make sure that artwork is properly packed, if any artwork remains after the convention concludes.
Artwork must arrive in a reusable container with appropriate packaging materials, a return address label, and a prepaid shipping label or a check to cover the cost of return shipping. We strongly recommend providing a prepaid shipping label. If nothing is provided for return shipping, the cost will be deducted from artist sales.
Information regarding return insurance or the carrier to use for return shipping should also be provided.
Artwork being returned will be shipped within a week after the convention.
Bidding for and Purchasing Art
Sales are by written bid or quick (direct sale). Quick sales are not allowed once a valid written bid is received.
Art may be entered NFS (not for sale). However, it is strongly preferred that some if not all art displayed be available for purchase.
Sales are finalized at close of bidding to the last bidder on bid sheet. No voice auction is planned.
LAconV assumes no responsibility for no-show, lost, or unfulfilled bids placed on art. Artists who wish to follow up with a bid may ask the convention for contact information.
All artwork not in the print shop will receive a bid sheet.
All artwork in the print shop will receive a sales tag with a direct sale price.
Purchased art on display may be picked up on Sunday. One-day members may take direct sale items at the time of purchase. Print shop items may be taken at the time of purchase.
